Tax Year Data
  • 2026: 🇦🇪 United Arab Emirates, 🇦🇺 Australia, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom, 🇯🇵 Japan, 🇳🇿 New Zealand
Improvements
  • The country configuration panel now opens as a full-height side sheet on desktop and a bottom drawer on mobile, making it much easier to set up a destination on a phone without the keyboard covering inputs
  • Tax notices and warnings in the configuration panel are now shown inline with expandable detail, so you can read the full context without losing your place in the form
  • Official tax sources and methodology notes for each country are now accessible directly from the configuration panel, letting you verify the numbers behind a calculation
  • A bug report button has been added to the calculator toolbar, pre-filling a GitHub issue with the current page URL so you can flag calculation errors in seconds
  • Landing page preset cards now link directly to the correct calculator configuration, including regional variants such as the Dutch 30% Ruling in the Expat Havens preset
  • Portugal 2026 now correctly applies the mandatory specific employment income deduction (dedução específica) — the greater of €4,104 or 11% of gross — before computing IRS, matching how Portuguese tax law actually works
  • Italy 2026 now models the INPS contribution cut (cuneo fiscale), which reduces employee social security rates for lower and middle earners in line with 2026 legislation
Fixes
  • Corrected the Spain Beckham Law calculation: the personal allowance credit and intermediate deduction node are now properly removed under the flat-rate regime, so net income figures match the actual 24%/47% structure
v0.2.10
Feb 25, 2026
Improvements
  • The comparison view now shows a dedicated card layout on mobile instead of a cramped horizontal table, making it much easier to read results on a phone
  • A TL;DR summary bar appears at the top of the mobile comparison view, letting you see all net salaries and effective rates at a glance and tap to scroll to any country card
  • When comparing countries with different currencies, net salaries are now shown in a common base currency alongside the original local amount, so you can make apples-to-apples comparisons
  • Salary sync across destinations now fetches all currency conversions in a single batch instead of one request per country, making updates faster when you type a new gross salary
  • Exchange rate lookups are now cached in the browser for one hour and de-duplicated, so switching between currencies does not trigger redundant network requests
  • The add-destination wizard form fields now stack to a single column on small screens, preventing cramped two-column layouts on narrow devices
  • The sticky row-label column in the desktop comparison table now has a subtle shadow to visually separate it from the scrollable data columns
v0.2.9
Feb 24, 2026

The calculator now uses a side-by-side comparison table so you can scan all countries and their tax breakdowns in a single glance.

Improvements
  • Replaced the old column-per-country layout with a structured comparison table: rows are tax categories, columns are destinations, making it easy to compare line items across countries at a glance
  • Tax breakdown rows (income tax, contributions, credits, etc.) are now collapsible — click a category to expand it and see the individual line items for every country simultaneously
  • The row-label column stays fixed when you scroll horizontally, so you always know which row you are looking at even with four destinations open
  • The 'Best' country is highlighted in green across every row of the table, not just the total, making it visually obvious which destination wins
  • Country configuration now opens in a focused wizard panel (a side sheet on desktop, a bottom drawer on mobile) instead of editing inline, reducing clutter while you compare
  • The landing page hero section was refreshed with a cleaner feature grid and updated copy
v0.2.8
Feb 22, 2026

2026 tax data for 14 countries, plus a new destination wizard that makes it much easier to add and edit countries in your comparison

New Variants
  • 🇳🇱Netherlands30% Ruling
  • 🇫🇷FranceImpatrié (Article 155B)
  • 🇫🇷FrancePortage Salarial
  • 🇮🇪IrelandSARP (Special Assignee Relief Programme)
  • 🇩🇰DenmarkResearcher Tax Scheme (Forskerordning)
  • 🇪🇸SpainBeckham Law
  • 🇰🇷South KoreaForeign Flat Tax (19%)
  • 🇵🇹PortugalIFICI (Non-Habitual Resident successor)
  • 🇸🇪SwedenExpert Tax (30% exemption)
Tax Year Data
  • 2026: 🇨🇦 Canada, 🇨🇭 Switzerland, 🇩🇪 Germany, 🇩🇰 Denmark, 🇪🇸 Spain, 🇫🇷 France, 🇮🇪 Ireland, 🇰🇷 South Korea, 🇳🇱 Netherlands, 🇳🇴 Norway, 🇵🇹 Portugal, 🇸🇪 Sweden, 🇸🇬 Singapore, 🇺🇸 United States
Improvements
  • A new destination wizard replaces the old inline form — a 3-step dialog guides you through country, tax options, and living costs, making it much easier to add or edit a destination
  • You can now toggle between a single shared gross salary for all destinations or individual salaries per country, with a confirmation step to avoid accidental changes
  • The edit (pencil) button in each country header opens the wizard so you can reconfigure any destination without removing and re-adding it
  • Country auto-detection now reads your timezone first (physical location) rather than your browser language, so an English-language browser in the Netherlands correctly defaults to the Netherlands
  • Salary amounts entered for one destination are automatically converted to the local currency when you add a new destination with a different currency
v0.2.7
Feb 22, 2026

Enter your monthly living costs to see true disposable income side-by-side across countries, and enter country-specific deductions to get exact after-tax figures.

Improvements
  • You can now enter monthly living costs — rent, groceries, healthcare, transport, and more — directly in each country column. The calculator shows your disposable income (net salary minus annual costs) so you can compare how far your take-home pay actually goes in each location
  • When any column has living-cost data, the best-country highlight uses disposable income instead of raw net salary, giving you a more honest comparison
  • Netherlands: mortgage interest (hypotheekrente), pension and annuity contributions (lijfrentepremies), and out-of-pocket healthcare costs can now be entered as optional deductions. Each deduction shows exactly how much it saves you in taxes per year
  • Netherlands: the mortgage interest deduction is correctly capped at the 37.48% rate for top-bracket earners, matching the Dutch aftrekbeperking rule
  • Deduction fields are grouped logically — for example, mortgage start year appears as a sub-field under mortgage interest — keeping the form clean when you do not need extra detail
  • A bug in the generic tax bracket engine that caused it to apply a hardcoded German tax formula to all countries has been fixed. Bracket calculations now use only the rates defined in each country's configuration
  • A second bracket-tax bug where the base amount was counted multiple times across brackets has been fixed, improving accuracy for all multi-bracket tax calculations
  • The hero section now cycles through real city names — Amsterdam, Berlin, Zurich, London, and others — so the core question reads naturally as you consider your next move
v0.2.4
Feb 22, 2026
Improvements
  • New salary mode toggle: choose "Same salary" to apply one gross figure across all destinations with automatic currency conversion, or "Local salaries" to enter independent offers per destination
  • Adding a new destination in Same salary mode pre-fills the gross amount and re-converts it to the correct currency once you pick a country
  • Renamed "Add Country" to "Add Destination" throughout the interface for clearer language

Improvements
  • Side-by-side multi-country comparison lets you add up to several destinations and see net salary, effective rate, and tax breakdown for each at a glance
  • Salary range chart shows how your effective and marginal tax rates shift as income rises, so you can see where the next bracket kicks in
  • Tax breakdown displays each component — income tax, social contributions, and credits — separately so you can see exactly where the money goes
  • Calculation history saves past results locally in the browser, with search and the ability to name and annotate entries
  • Shareable URLs encode the full calculator state so you can send a link and others see the same countries, gross salary, and variant you configured
  • Currency normalisation converts net salaries from different countries into a common currency for apples-to-apples comparison
  • Best-destination highlight automatically marks the country with the highest net take-home in a comparison
  • All 50 US states and DC are supported via the state-tax input, covering both federal and state income tax
  • All 13 Canadian provinces and territories are available as variants, each with the correct provincial tax brackets
  • Germany supports per-state church-tax and Solidaritätszuschlag calculations across all 16 Bundesländer
  • Config-driven YAML engine means tax rules are community-maintainable and auditable without changing application code
